Author Guidelines
General
We invite authors to submit manuscripts that fall within the mission and scope of the journal. We accept submissions on a rolling basis, except for our Special Issues: Special Issues follow the deadlines set by the Special Issue editors.
- All submissions, except creative wroks, should be Pakistan-related. Submissions of creative works should meet at least one of the two criteria: they should be either by a writer of Pakistani origin--native or diasporic--or about a Pakistan-related subject.
- All submissions must be in Standard American English.
- All submissions must be single-spaced and must use Times, font size 12.
Specific Editorial Sections
Scholarly Articles: Scholarly Articles can be 4000-9000 words including notes, and should follow the MLA Style for articles related to the Humanities and APA Style for the Social Sciences. Use footnotes instead of endnotes. The review process will usually take about eight weeks.
Poetry and Prose:
- Poetry: You can submit only one poem at a time. To submit additional poems, please restart the submission process on the author page.
- Prose: Submit only one short story/creative nonfiction piece, not exceeding 9000 words, at one time.
Book Reviews: Book Reviews should not exceed 1200 words and should be about Pakistan-related books or about books authored by Pakistani writers published within the last one year. (This rule applies only to academic books; we will consider reviews of creative works from or about Pakistan even if published prior to last one year).
Translations: We are primarily interested in translations of original works from any of Pakistani languages. Translations must include necessary author/publisher permissions and must be preceded by a Translator's Note providing introductory details to the translated work and its author.
Notes: We publish short notes and commentaries (1000-2500 words) about Pakistan-related subjects.
Urdu Section: We encourage Urdu writers to submit their prose and poetry. Authors should upload their submissions in PDF.
STYLE GUIDE
MLA
The MLA style is widely used in the humanities for professional writing and documentation, and it is particularly utilized in English studies, comparative literature studies, cultural studies, and other liberal arts scholarship. The definitive guide for MLA Style is the MLA Style Manual and Guide to Scholarly Publishing, third edition. MLA Style Link.
The APA style is predominantly used in the social sciences, and contains more guidelines for handling data, graphs, and charts. The definitive guide for APA Style is The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, fifth edition. APA Style Link.

Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
- We welcome both new and previously published works. If submitting a previously published work confirm that you are either the copyright holder or have the copyright holder's permission to submit your work to us.
- The submission file is in Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format, and the text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
- Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
- If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
- If your essay uses colored graphs, diagrams, or pictures, ensure that you also upload a supplementary file (Step 4 of the submission process) of your illustrations with the BEST POSSIBLE RESOLUTION. This measure is necessary for us to produce a good final copy of your article.
